The bits of Shindigg that aren't obvious. Jump to a section:

Timezones

Every event stores an exact instant in time plus its own display timezone. The time you see on an event is the event's own time — not your local time. So a concert in New York shows at its New York time whether you're viewing from Los Angeles or London. When you create or edit an event, you pick the wall-clock time and a timezone; the display stays correct across daylight-saving changes.

Visibility

A calendar (and the events on it) can be one of:

  • Public — appears in the feed and search; anyone can find and subscribe.
  • Private — only people you approve can subscribe and see events.
  • Personal — your own private calendar; not shared.

Public events are indexed by search engines. Private and personal events are not.

Covers & themes

An event's cover has two independent parts. The theme is an icon (Food & Drink, Live Music, …) shown when there's no photo. The banner color is a separate color you pick — it shows behind the icon and as the feed thumbnail. Picking a theme never changes the color, and vice versa.

RSVPs

RSVPing tells the organizer you're coming and adds the event to your schedule. You'll find events you've RSVP'd to on your profile. You can change or cancel an RSVP any time before the event.

Calendars & subscriptions

A calendar is a collection of events from one source — a venue, a club, a friend group. Subscribing to a calendar adds its events to what you see. For private calendars, the owner approves your subscription before you can see events.

Location

Shindigg shows you events near you. Set your location once (a city or zip is enough) and the home feed and event search sort by distance from there. Your location is stored in a cookie on your device — it isn't tied to your account and you can clear or change it any time from the location control.
